CCS worked with the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) on a feasibility and planning study followed by full-time, on-site counsel for a $125M campaign.

Based in: Woods Hole, MA, Northeast U.S., United States

Sector: Environment & Animals

Key Elements

  • MBL needed to ensure its future by raising funds for endowment, operating support for its outstanding research and educational programs, and capital projects.
  • CCS provided full-time, on-site counsel for its campaign, contributing to campus infrastructure renovation and support.

The Challenge

Incorporated in 1888, the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) is an international center for research, education, and training in biology and ecology. The MBL needed to ensure its future by raising funds for endowment, operating support for its outstanding research and educational programs, and capital projects.

The Solution

After conducting the feasibility and planning study for the MBL, CCS provided full-time, on-site counsel to this internationally recognized leading institution of biological research and education during its $125 million campaign.

The Impact

Support came from donors interested in ensuring the health of the planet, training the next generation of leaders in the life sciences, and improving the MBL campus infrastructure. The MBL’s central research training facility, the Loeb Laboratory, received $25 million for renovation and support, which also led to the establishment of the new Eugene Bell Center for Regenerative Biology and Tissue Engineering.
