Key Elements

  • Benioff Children’s needed to fund their Master Plan Modernization Project to transform the hospital’s ability to provide pediatric health care in the community.
  • CCS has been helping to manage the $200 million campaign since 2013.
  • The campaign has nearly reached the goal, and has helped construction begin.

THE CHALLENGE

UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland—recognized globally as a leader in healthcare, innovation, cutting edge research, and compassionate care—believes every child deserves the best chance at a healthy future. The hospital is in the midst of a comprehensive campaign to provide all children access to healthcare; unite high-tech with high-touch by providing children and their families with compassionate care at the forefront of scientific discovery; train outstanding clinicians and leaders; and advocate for children’s health, making sure that every child has a voice.

With a significant need to enhance its facilities, a priority for the campaign is funding the Master Plan Modernization Project, which will transform the hospital’s ability to provide pediatric health care in the community.

THE SOLUTION

CCS conducted a feasibility and planning study in 2013, and has since provided campaign management, directing a $200 million comprehensive campaign. The campaign will fund all aspects of its clinical, research and teaching mission, including the Master Plan Modernization project.

During the campaign, Children’s Hospital Oakland affiliated and integrated with UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital (San Francisco) to create an enterprise that is more effectively advancing the health of infants, children, and adolescents in the San Francisco Bay Area and throughout the world.

THE IMPACT

To date, the campaign effort has raised more than $190 million, and the centerpiece of this plan, the Center for Advanced Outpatient Care, is under construction. Since the affiliation between Children’s Oakland and UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital in 2014, the hospitals have received a nine-figure commitment and CCS has helped guide the integration of the fundraising and development operations for the respective foundations. The campaign and integration has helped the newly-formed UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals enterprise meet new challenges in patient care, research, and teaching as they seek solutions to help children lead longer and healthier lives.
